Bristol Zoo offers a brilliant day out with over 400 species of wildlife to discover and exhibitions and attractions all set within 12 acres of beautiful gardens. It’s the fifth oldest zoo in the world, the oldest zoo outside of a capital city, and a long established major tourist attraction in Bristol. The Zoo is also a world-leader in wildlife education and conservation, so watch out for some rare species and new baby animals. Cheddar Gorge is a place of wild and rugged beauty. It is a karst limestone and calcareous grassland Nature Reserve, and home to many rare plants and animals, including endangered Greater Horseshoe bats. Cheddar Caves, inhabited by our ancestors up to 40,000 years ago, were re-discovered by Messrs Gough & Cox, enterprising Victorian showmen, and are world famous for their spectacular stalactite and stalagmite decorations, whose beautiful colours are mirrored in pools of water. The Clifton Suspension Bridge, spanning the beautiful Avon Gorge, is the symbol of the city of Bristol. It offers spectacular views and can be seen from all around the city, and the Clifton Downs. The Bristol Hippodrome Theatre regularly hosts West End touring companies and was the place where Bristol native Archibald Leach, better known as Cary Grant, caught the acting bug. Celebrating Bristol’s prestigious ship building past through models, pictures and audio-visual displays, the Maritime Heritage Centre is a way to discover the history of this port city and shipbuilding in Bristol. There are full size reconstructions as well as models and original machinery.

While you’re in the harbour area, check out the Matthew, Watershed Media Centre or the Industrial Museum. You can even take a boat trip around the harbour to Bath and even as far as the Bristol Channel and the Welsh Coast. Water taxis also run regularly if your legs get tired. For amore boutique style of shopping, wonder up Park Street and White Ladies road and then into Clifton village for some more unique and independent labels. Plenty of metered parking, or free parking up on Clifton Downs.
